PVC pipe dimensions come down to three things: the outside diameter (OD), the wall thickness and the standard the pipe is made to. This guide gives the complete dimension charts for Huasheng industrial PVC-U and CPVC pipe, made to ASTM and DIN/ISO/GB/T standards. All values are in millimeters.
Quick answer: ASTM pipe is named by a nominal size in inches (1/2″ to 24″), and its wall thickness follows the schedule, SCH 40 or SCH 80. DIN/ISO/GB/T pipe is named by its nominal outside diameter dn in millimeters (dn20 to dn800 for PVC-U, dn20 to dn630 for CPVC), and its wall thickness follows the S series. In both systems, the OD decides which fittings fit.
Nominal size (ASTM): a label, not a measurement. A 2″ pipe has an OD of 60.32 mm. The OD is the same for SCH 40 and SCH 80, so one fitting size fits both schedules.
Schedule: SCH 80 has a thicker wall than SCH 40 at every size, so its inside diameter is smaller.
S series, SDR and PN (DIN/ISO/GB/T): a lower S number means a thicker wall and a higher pressure class. SDR is the OD divided by the wall thickness.
Inch vs millimeter: a 4″ ASTM pipe has an OD of 114.3 mm, while DIN dn110 has an OD of 110 mm. They are not interchangeable, so compare actual OD values, not size names.
Huasheng’s industrial PVC-U pipe offers corrosion resistance, high impact strength and low fluid resistance. According to the company catalog, flow is up to 30% higher than cast iron pipe of the same diameter, and the weight is about 20% lower.

Huasheng’s DIN (ISO, GB/T) PVC-U pipe covers dn20 to dn800 in the S20 to S4 series (GB/T 4219-2008). The nominal size is the OD itself: dn110 has a 110 mm OD. A dash means that combination is not listed.

CPVC is made by chlorination modification of PVC resin. After chlorination, chemical stability and heat resistance increase, so it suits hotter or more demanding lines.
ASTM F441 CPVC (1/2″ to 24″, SCH 40 & SCH 80): the OD, wall thickness and tolerances are identical to the ASTM PVC-U chart above at every size. For example, 2″ CPVC has an OD of 60.32 mm, a SCH 40 wall of 3.91 mm and a SCH 80 wall of 5.54 mm.
DIN/GB/T 18998.2 CPVC (dn20–dn630, S12.5 to S4): the walls differ from PVC-U, so this chart is listed separately.

SCH 40 and SCH 80 share the same OD at every nominal size, so they fit the same socket fittings. SCH 80 has a thicker wall and a smaller inside diameter. The gap widens with size: SCH 80 is about 35% thicker than SCH 40 at 1/2″ and about 77% thicker at 24″.
Calculate the inside diameter with: ID = OD − 2 × wall. For 2″ pipe, SCH 40 gives 60.32 − 2 × 3.91 = 52.50 mm, and SCH 80 gives 60.32 − 2 × 5.54 = 49.24 mm. These are approximate values based on the minimum wall.
To identify an unknown pipe, measure its OD with calipers and match it to the charts: a reading near 60.32 mm is 2″ ASTM, and a reading near 110 mm is DIN dn110.
Match the standard to your system. Pipe, fittings and valves in one line should follow the same standard.
Pick the size by OD. Remember that 4″ ASTM (114.3 mm) and dn110 (110 mm) are different sizes.
Pick the wall by pressure. Use SCH 80 for a thicker wall in ASTM pipe, or a lower S number in DIN/ISO/GB/T pipe.
Material | Standard | Size range | Wall system | Matching fittings |
|---|---|---|---|---|
PVC-U | ASTM D1785 | 1/2″ to 24″ | SCH 40, SCH 80 | PVC Fitting SCH40 / SCH80 (ASTM) |
PVC-U | DIN (ISO, GB/T) | dn20 to dn800 | S20 to S4 | PVC Fitting PN10 / PN16 (DIN), PVC Rubber Ring Fitting (DIN) |
CPVC | ASTM F441 | 1/2″ to 24″ | SCH 40, SCH 80 | CPVC Fitting SCH80 (ASTM) |
CPVC | DIN (ISO, GB/T) | dn20 to dn630 | S12.5 to S4 | CPVC Fitting PN16 (DIN) |
Huasheng also makes PVC ball, butterfly, check, bottom, diaphragm and sampling valves to match each pipe range. This article lists dimensions only. For the pressure rating of a specific size, ask Huasheng for the technical datasheet.
1.What are the standard PVC pipe sizes?
ASTM pipe runs from 1/2″ to 24″ in SCH 40 and SCH 80. DIN/ISO/GB/T PVC-U runs from dn20 to dn800, and CPVC from dn20 to dn630.
2.What is the OD of 2-inch PVC pipe?
60.32 mm (±0.15 mm) for both SCH 40 and SCH 80. The wall is 3.91 mm in SCH 40 and 5.54 mm in SCH 80.
3.Do SCH 40 and SCH 80 use the same fittings?
Yes. They have the same OD at each nominal size. Only the wall thickness and inside diameter differ.
4.What size is 110 mm PVC pipe in inches?
About 4.33 inches. It is not the same as 4″ ASTM pipe, which has an OD of 114.3 mm.
5.What is the difference between PN10 and SDR21?
SDR21 is the S10 series. It gives a nominal pressure of 1.0 MPa (10 bar) at C = 2.5 and 1.25 MPa at C = 2.0, based on an MRS of 25 MPa.
6.Are PVC-U and CPVC dimensions the same?
For ASTM pipe, yes. For DIN/ISO/GB/T pipe they have separate charts: PVC-U covers S20 to S4 up to dn800, and CPVC covers S12.5 to S4 up to dn630.
To read any PVC pipe dimension chart, first identify the standard (ASTM or DIN/ISO/GB/T), then match the OD, then choose the wall thickness by schedule or S series. Compare ASTM and metric sizes by actual OD, never by name.
